The Salem, NH Dog Mayor Program is an exciting new community initiative celebrating the special role that dogs play in our town. In its first annual election, one exceptional canine will be chosen to serve as Salem's inaugural Dog Mayor, acting as an ambassador for responsible pet ownership, animal welfare, and community engagement. 

The elected Dog Mayor's term will run from June 16, 2025, to June 15, 2026. The official InDOGuration Ceremony will take place on June 16, 2025, at the Town Council Meeting, where the winning pup will receive their mayoral sash, make their first "bark" to the public, and begin their year of service. Throughout the term, the Dog Mayor will make special appearances at community events, promote pet-friendly initiatives, and spread joy across Salem.

Eligibility Requirements:

The candidate must be: 
  • Registered in Salem, New Hampshire
  • Be at least one year old
  • Have no history of poor behavior with Salem Animal Control
  • Up-to-date on vaccinations
  • Be comfortable around large groups, people of all ages, and other animals
  • Be well-trained and social
